A 3 year project funded by the Department for International Development 2001-2004 |
GLADE continues to provide support as described below on a paid basis |
| Aims: |
| The 4 key components: |
Resource Packages |
| which provide guidance on the purpose of North – South links, their educational value, curriculum relevance, links as part of the development education process, some key development issues, sources of support (financial and otherwise), and the availability of appropriate educational resources. Each package will take account of the particular needs of the individual school/college or community group involved. |
Training
and support |
| for those involved with and responsible for the setting up, management, day to day running, monitoring and evaluation of links. Participants will be encouraged to explore appropriate partnerships and relationships in the linking context, roles and responsibilities, suitable methods and channels of communication, desired outcomes and the inevitable demands which will be made on the time, energy and resources of both the individuals and institutions involved. |
Visit preparation and planning |
| Provision of advice and guidance on the merits and purpose of short-term visits; the conditions and preparations necessary for them to have genuine educational value; the practicalities of making visits to Southern partners (do’s and don’ts); the factors which need to be taken into account when deciding who takes part in the visits; what the immediate expectations are and what the longer term outcomes might be. |
Bringing it home |
| Advice and guidance on how to ensure that the understanding gained and lessons learnt from the linking experience, (not simply those that arise from possible short term visits), are integrated into the life and ethos of the whole school / community. |
